Holly Johnson - The Power Of Love (Live in 1987)

Originally a UK number one in December 1984 for Frankie Goes to Hollywood, this is an excellent live version by Holly Johnson from 1987 - his voice is really is on top form here. I also like the arrangement which makes this the best live version I've ever heard.

Holly released a new solo version which featured on his 1999 album Soulstream, and the ex-Frankie frontman also had a No.1 album in 1989 entitled Blast which went Platinum and featured the Top five hit singles Love Train and Americanos.

The original release of The Power of Love was Frankie's third UK number one single and was knocked off the top spot by Band Aid's Feed The World just in time for the Christmas #1 spot in 1984. It featured on the band's debut album Welcome to the Pleasuredome which also included the No.1 hits Relax and Two Tribes which are both featured in the Top 100 best-selling UK singles of all-time.

You can also find Gabrielle Aplin's spine-tingling cover version on this blog. She took the song to No.1 again in December 2012, 28 years after the original topped the charts!

Check out the Frankie Goes To Hollywood/Holly Johnson page at simplyeighties.com which features many more videos, photos and bucketloads of info about the band.
