Holly Johnson - Relax (HD) Live in 2011
This video features the ex-Frankie Goes To Hollywood frontman at the 80s Rewind Festival (August 2011) at Henley-On-Thames, England, with his performance of the controversial hit single from the 80s, Relax. Released in October 1983, the song was meandering outside the Top 40 until it was famously banned by the BBC, after DJ Mike Read discovered that the lyrics were of a sexual nature. He refused to play the song, although the band denied (initially) that they contained anything of this nature, and other commercial radio stations were playing the song.
Of course, all this controversy meant that the single would eventually reach No.1 in January 1984 and kick-started a short, but very successful musical career for the Liverpudlian band. The ban was eventually lifted by the BBC and the band featured on the Christmas 1984 edition of Top Of The Pops. Relax remains in the top ten of all-time best-selling singles in the UK and sold over 1.9 million units.
