Madonna - Angel (2012 Remix)

Some of Madge's 80s songs do tend to sound a little dated now, and so this welcome mix brings her hit song Angel right up-to-date with a banging dance groove. The song was originally a #5 hit in both the U.S. and UK in 1985, and was released as the third single from the album Like A Virgin. In some countries the 12" version included Into The Groove on the B-side. Talking of Into The Groove, this was released as Madonna's fourth and final single from Like A Virgin, but was only included on the re-issued version of the album and not on the original.

Angel has quite a simple chorus (it only uses three chords) and had a mixed critical reception. However, the record-buying public certainly showed their appreciation, and with pop music it's usually the simplest tunes that sell. There's no doubt that much of the success can be attributed to the producer Nile Rodgers, who was also the main producer of the Like A Virgin album, with Stephen Bray and Madonna also helping out with both the production and songwriting. As with the Angel single, reviews of the album were mixed, but it was very much a commercial success, selling around 21 million units worldwide. It became her second best-selling studio album after True Blue which sold 25 million.
